A Collaborative Summer Youth Workshop of
Wichita Falls ISD, Midwestern State University, and the WF Museum of Art
Fourteen students from the Wichita Falls Independent School District
were selected to participate in a summer art workshop
featuring guest artist, Beth Galston of Boston
Artists never know where they might get their inspiration. For Boston environmental sculptor Beth Galston, it was on the airplane ride to Wichita Falls, when she was introduced to North Texas’ severe weather. (excerpts from Lana Sweeten-Shults, TimesRecordNews)
The day of her arrival, a severe thunderstorm slammed Wichita Falls and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, forcing her plane to return to Dallas during midflight. According to her pilot, the lightning and turbulence made it "too dangerous to fly!"
“That definitely influenced Beth,” said Jim Henson, the director of ArtFest09, a visual arts camp for Wichita Falls Independent School District junior high and high school students. Her experience was translated into a weather-inspired installation at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University. (story and pictures continued on links below)
